1100 litre bin hire and collection
An 1100 litre bin is the UK's standard commercial wheelie bin. Collection providers quote it at about 1.4m tall, 1.26m wide and 1m deep. It holds 15 to 18 sacks of 65 litres (Business Waste and Bins.co.uk, checked August 2026). It suits sites with outdoor space to park it and enough waste to fill it.

Size and capacity
Collection providers quote the same external size, 1400 x 1260 x 1000mm (Reconomy and Bins.co.uk, checked August 2026). Manufacturers publish different figures, nearer 1330mm tall and 1375mm wide. There is no single 1100 litre size, so measure the gate and the bin store first.
Capacity is 15 to 18 sacks at 65 litres each. The arithmetic favours that range, because 1100 divided by 65 is under 17.
Collection weight limits are set by your carrier. Typical terms are 65kg for general waste, 35kg for dry mixed recycling and cardboard (Business Waste and Bins.co.uk, checked August 2026). The bin's structural load capacity is a different number.
Who it suits
It suits hotels, schools, larger offices, pubs and industrial units filling several sacks a day. It needs level ground outside and a clear pull route, because a full one is heavy. Where access is tight, two 660 litre bins often beat one 1100, and the whole range sits on commercial bins.
Collection frequency and cost
Carriers price per site and publish nothing. Business Waste says there are "no set-in-stone prices for the cost of commercial waste collection" (checked August 2026).
The only openly published 1100 litre prices are council trade waste rates for 2026/27. Cherwell District Council charges £19.75 per collection. Amber Valley Borough Council charges £26.04, which it publishes as £1,353.60 a year weekly and £676.80 fortnightly. Those are two councils' own tariffs, not a Nettle quote and not a national average. Treat them as an order of magnitude.
Frequency follows how fast you fill it. Two lifts a week on a half-full bin cost more than one weekly lift. A bin that overflows costs more again, in side-waste charges.
One 1100 for general waste will not meet the rules in England on its own. Workplaces there have separated dry recyclables and food waste since 31 March 2025. Firms under 10 full-time equivalent staff have until 31 March 2027 (GOV.UK, updated 3 October 2025).
You still complete a waste transfer note for each load, and check your carrier is registered (GOV.UK, checked August 2026). If your current lift price and frequency already fit the site, we say so and you stay put.
